High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC)

In the future with the development of renewable energy resources in more remote areas, including offshore wind and marine renewables, HVDC systems will be required to carry large amounts of power to demand centres.

Econnect plays a key role in developing the requirements for the HVDC assets and has developed the concepts of AC and DC interconnectors, in the North Sea for example, leading to concepts such as the offshore grid.

Econnect's study for the Renewables Advisory Board (RAB) of the connection of the Round 2 offshore windfarms in the UK also examined the economics of DC vs. AC connections.
