History

Formed in 1995 Econnect has since grown at a rate of over 35% year on year, enjoying a lead position in this specialised market.

Our teams have provided expertise in grid connection and modelling services and have delivered design/costing advice to some of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers, developers and Utilities.

Econnect's electrical engineering expertise has been accumulated through our involvement in over 30GW of clients’ renewable energy projects, with over 2000MW already connected to many different types of electrical power systems and networks across the world.

This work has resulted in many otherwise stalled projects being connected. Other projects have been completed with reduced connection costs, earlier connection dates, or larger projects connected to the same network.

With a team exceeding 100 people and offices in four countries, further global expansion is planned in order to meet the challenges of integrating renewable energy into grids.

 

Key Milestones:

1995

Established with DTI and SMART funding from the front room of a terraced property. Appointed owner's electrical engineer for Scotland's first windfarm - Hagshaw Hill.
2002 Contract for electrical management of RWE Npower’s North Hoyle wind farm, the UK's first large scale offshore windfarm off Rhyll, North Wales. Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
2003 Opened businesses in Ireland and Australia as part of global expansion. Accredited to ISO 9001:2000. EMI share option scheme put in place for all staff.
2005 £250k unsecured mezzanine loan from Northern Enterprise Ltd. Milestone of being contracted on 67% of ALL wind farms constructed in the UK. Projects in 24 countries to date.
2006 Company restructure, setting up of five operating businesses under Econnect Group Ltd. Rapid expansion in construction brings Group turnover to £8m.
2007 Business focussed on improving work flows and ways of working. Further restructure includes appointment of Group MD to complete senior management team.
