CEO at IET DWG Event...
Econnect's Chief Executive, Guy Nicholson, set the scene at the Institution of Engineering and Technology's Distributed Generation Event in December at University of Northumbria in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Around 70 representatives drawn from private industry, academia and distribution network operators were given an overview of distributed generation policy in the UK from the perspective of the Distribution Working Group (DWG).
Guy gave his unique interpretation of the history, background and achievements of the DWG, challenges of climate change, drivers and opportunities arising, the changing electricity networks and future vision and scenario planning.
The focus was on the move from traditional electricity grids to Active Network Management and Smart Grids to accommodate increased renewable generation to meet the EU targets for energy from renewables.
Delegates left with a clearer picture of how the technologies and solutions discussed by speakers in the subsequent presentations would fit into the overall plan.
Guy’s slides can be downloaded from the papers and presentations section of our website.
Notes:
The Distributed Working Group (DWG) continues the work of the earlier Distributed Generation Coordinating Group's (DGCG) Technical Steering Group (TSG), examining the issues to enable the integration of generation onto the distribution network. The DWG manages four Work Programme areas 1) Horizon Scanning; 2) Network Design for a Low-Carbon Economy; 3) Enabling Active Network Management; and 4) Facilitating Small-Scale Generation
