CEO Called as Expert Witness

Econnect’s Chief Executive Guy Nicholson has appeared as an Expert Witness at the London Array public inquiry, calling on his 26 years’ international experience in connecting energy projects to the networks.

Econnect Consulting have been working with the London Array consortium, cataloguing and reviewing their connection assessment process for this 1000MW offshore windfarm, set to be the largest in the world.

The planning application for a 400kV substation at Cleve Hill had been rejected by the Swale Borough Council and subsequently went to appeal.

Together with the background work, Guy’s appearance at the public inquiry sought to demonstrate that Cleve Hill was indeed the optimal location, when taking into account environmental considerations, subsea cabling, electrical connections and the impacts of any 132kV to 400kV upgrade.

A successful project will contribute significantly to the Government’s target for renewable energy – providing around 10% of their target for 2010. It would also prevent the emission of 1.9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
