Renewables Specialist Appoints Technology MD

Econnect has appointed a Managing Director to its Technology business - the second high level appointment by the group this year, as the company continues to gear up for major growth.

Iain McLean joins as Managing Director of Econnect Ventures Ltd within months of the appointment of Bryan Grinham to Econnect Construction Ltd.

Iain, a chartered engineer and graduate of Harvard Business School, brings with him a wealth of experience in high growth businesses, having worked in companies as diverse as Shell, Raychem and Ballard Power Systems.

Having returned to his native UK from Vancouver to fill the role, Iain is excited at Econnect’s proposition, saying:

“The alternative energy industry in the UK has become an exciting arena in recent years and a great ‘market space’ to do business. When I became aware of the role at Econnect the prospect of a return to the UK in such a thriving industry was a key driver.

“Most renewable energy projects need some form of grid connection - whether to a national network or an island network. Econnect has the scalability, reputation and most importantly the people to deliver.”

Econnect’s immediate goals include the further commercialisation of a number of advanced connection tools, including its load controllers and demand side management products. Iain will be calling on his international experience as CEO with a number of high growth businesses to help steer Econnect Ventures to further success.

He added: “It’s already clear what needs to be done and I am looking forward to applying and adjusting my skills and experience to the renewable energy markets.”
