Econnect Guides the Way to Electrical Connection in Ireland
Econnect Ireland is to develop new guides on behalf of Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) that could transform the development and connection of renewable energy in Ireland.
The guides will provide online advice and information for the electrical connection of all forms of renewable energy and CHP generation - from residential projects through to large-scale windfarms – making the electrical connection process far easier to navigate.
A suite of documents will allow for the differences between connecting microgeneration and
larger more complex schemes, offering clear advice to those seeking to generate and export energy.
These guides will facilitate the increasing numbers of renewable generators who will apply for connections to deliver capacity to meet the governments ambitious targets for renewable energy penetration
Due for completion next year, the guide forms part of SEI’s mission to promote and assist the development of sustainable energy.
As well as writing a suite of easy to understand technical documents covering connection applications and all regulatory & commercial aspects, Econnect will provide regular updates and include new technologies as they are developed, to ensure that the guide stays up to date and relevant.
Econnect will call on their experience and expertise in putting together similar documents for the UK and Australia.
Econnect Ireland’s Rory Mullan is delighted to have been awarded the work:
“This is a massive project that will allow independent homeowners as well as development companies to get to grips with what can be an extremely complicated procedure.
“Connecting to Ireland’s burgeoning grid has become a major stumbling block in terms of timing and complexity, but is vital to the success of generation projects. Using the guide will simplify the whole connection process and therefore allow developers to potentially connect more quickly.
SEI’s John McCann was involved in the team that appointed Econnect. John said:
“Econnect were selected by SEI to produce the guides after a competitive tendering process. The guides will provide a valuable aid to the rapidly increasing numbers of renewable and CHP electricity generators applying for electricity network connections”
