£1.4m Contract for UK Renewables Contractor

A major player in the UK renewables industry has won the contract to supply and build a 5-turbine wind farm on land near Swindon.

Econnect Construction Ltd. finalised the contract, with Westmill Wind Farm co-op, on Friday afternoon, worth almost £1.4m in turnover.

Work on behalf of Westmill’s appointed developers Energy4all, will commence at the site in the South East of England as early as next week. It will ultimately supply 12,000 megawatts of energy every year – enough to power a community of 2,500 homes.

Econnect Construction pitched head-to-head with several other international construction firms in a competitive bidding process, but their experience, skills and value for money set them apart from the competition.

Angela Duignan, Development Director of Energy4all said:

“It has taken 15 years for the Westmill community project to get this far. A lot of hard work has gone into making the project viable and we now need the best people working to get the farm up and running on behalf of residents.

“By early next year Westmill will be generating clean, carbon free electricity for the next 25 years.”

This is a massive boost for the construction company who earlier this year moved to custom built offices in a bid to deal with rapid growth.

Paul Glendinning, Managing Director of Econnect Construction said:

“Our team has worked hard to negotiate the tender and our track record in constructing renewables has done the rest.

“Orders of this size are fantastic for business and everyone in our team has contributed to this win in some way.

“The construction of Westmill starts next week and in typical Econnect Construction fashion we are now all guns blazing to get the five turbines up and running on time and to budget.”

This latest contract win comes on the back of a number of project completions for Econnect during 2007, including the Scottish 15 and 16 turbine projects at Dalswinton and Minsca respectively. Joining Econnect Construction onsite at Westmills will be civils contractor RG Carter.
